Sat here in my lounge listening to workmen on the road preparing the surface of the road for new tarmac, reminds me that preparation is so vital in so many ways. I am currently involved in the planting of a new church, and whilst we would be really encouraged if loads of people start coming along, what we need to be doing most at the moment is preparing the ground – just as the workmen need to prepare the road so that the new tarmac surface will last, we need to be laying foundations so that the church we build stands strong in the storms.
Like so many things in life, it is in the preparation that the longevity of something lies. The work done in the background, the work done beforehand that no-one sees is the the key to the quality of the job.
Do not despise the days of small things
